Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals treats treat some of the most seriously ill children in the country. Many patients have life-limiting conditions and will require frequent admissions and often long stays in hospital for surgery and ongoing treatment for the rest of their lives. Our Healing Hearts appeal will enable us to fund lifesaving medical equipment and specialist resources to improve young patients’ care and help aid their recovery.
With the money raised from the appeal, we aim to purchase new state-of-the-art bedside heart monitors for the children’s ward. These touchscreen machines will provide tailored monitoring for each child. They are also wireless which means that staff can monitor patients remotely. We will also be funding small pieces of medical equipment and resources that will benefit thousands of patients.
Each monitor will cost over £6,000.
The funding of portable oxygen (SATs) monitors will allow patients to be safely monitored whilst away from the ward. Nurses will also use them when visiting patients in the community.
We will provide additional INR machines to make things easier for our young patients. These machines test blood with just a simple finger prick and can also be used at home by parents to reduce children’s visits to hospital.
We will be able to fund more fibre optic lights. This kind of sensory equipment can be a calming and relaxing aif for children of all ages during their stay in hospital, encouraging them to touch, play and explore.
This medical ID contains vital information to know in case of an emergency, providing parents and patients with peace of mind. Fund a subscription to the MedicAlert service for 12 months for patients up to the age of 25.
We will fund specialist resources and projects for young patients treated at the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals. We work closely with the hospital play services team to support children with special needs, such as autism.
